This is a wood sculpture made as my final project for 3D Foundations. The projects prompt was to create a piece that represents the cerebral self. I chose to base my piece on my sister and I’s relationship with our maternal grandmother. The wooden sculpture is in the shape of an anatomical heart with the words “I love you” in Norwegian engraved in the center to symbolize the eternal mark my grandmother has left on me. The purple flowers are the national flower of Norway and represent my grandmothers roots in Norway. Finally, the two orange butterflies represent my sister and I while the white butterfly represents my grandmother. Orange butterflies represent growth and healing and white butterflies represent a departed loved one or a guardian angel. Overall I was very happy with the way this piece turned out and felt like it successfully represented my cerebral self.
